FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – August 12, 2016 – Ian S. Marx, a litigation shareholder in Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s New Jersey office, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (ABF). This honorary organization recognizes attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession, according to the ABF website.
“I am honored to join the American Bar Foundation’s esteemed group of Fellows, and I am proud to support the critical research the Foundation does to advance the understanding of law and its impact on society,” said Marx.
Established in 1955, The Fellows support the research of the ABF through their annual contributions and sponsor seminars and events of direct relevance to the legal profession, the ABF website states. Members are nominated by their peers and elected by the Board of the ABF. Membership in The Fellows is limited to 1 percent of attorneys licensed to practice in each jurisdiction.
Marx joins other Greenberg Traurig attorneys who accepted invitations to become Fellows of the ABF this year including, Nicole Goodwin, M. Hope Keating, Edward J. Quirk, Nikki Lewis Simon, E. Jeffrey Walsh, and Quinn Williams.
Marx is a business litigator with varied and wide-ranging experience in the area of complex commercial litigation. He provides clients with representation and advice concerning a variety of disputes. Marx’s abundant courtroom experience includes appearances before numerous state and federal courts, bankruptcy courts, the surrogate's court, arbitration tribunals and in mediation proceedings.
Marx also serves as the pro bono coordinator for Greenberg Traurig’s New Jersey office, which has developed a unique “Associate Pro Bono Program,” in which senior lawyers collaborate with junior lawyers on a particular pro bono project. The program’s goal is to allow each associate, regardless of tenure at the bar, to work on at least one pro bono matter per year. These cases provide much-needed legal services to an underserved population and provide junior lawyers with valuable opportunities to play a first chair role in a way that enhances their professional development. He has also received various awards and recognitions throughout his career. He is listed in New Jersey Super Lawyers, and was a member of the winning team of the New Jersey Law Journal’s "General Litigation Department of the Year" award in 2013.
