Roy P. Zachariah is a registered patent attorney and shareholder in the firm's Intellectual Property Practice with a deep background in electrical and computer engineering. Patent Practice

Roy develops and implements patent strategies for building and managing patent portfolios across a wide range of technology areas, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, software and computer engineering, telecommunications, cybersecurity, blockchain and cryptocurrency, medical devices, content delivery systems, and numerous other fields. He prosecutes patent applications in the United States and abroad, handles Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) filings and procedures, and prepares patentability, freedom-to-operate, and invalidity opinions and analyses. He also counsels clients on patent portfolio development and management, patent licensing, and infringement risk assessment.

Trademark Practice

Roy's trademark practice encompasses the full lifecycle of trademark rights, from clearance through enforcement. He advises clients on trademark strategy, conducts trademark clearance searches and analyses, prosecutes trademark applications in the United States and internationally, and manages trademark portfolios. Roy also represents clients in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the USPTO's Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), and counsels clients on trademark licensing, assignments, and enforcement matters.

Transactional and Contracts Practice

A significant component of Roy's practice involves IP-focused transactional work and commercial agreements. He regularly conducts intellectual property due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, asset acquisitions, and other corporate transactions, assessing patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret assets and identifying associated risks.
