Go West: Ex-CFPB Chief Poised To Make Mark Next In Calif.

Timothy A. Butler is quoted in Law360 in an article titled “Go West: Ex-CFPB Chief Poised To Make Mark Next In Calif.”

Former CFPB Director Rohit Chopra is poised to take on a major new role in California as Gov. Gavin Newsom’s pick to lead the state’s newly formed Business and Consumer Services Agency (BCSA), a cabinet-level entity set to oversee a wide range of regulators spanning financial services, licensing, real estate, and more.

Butler said, in part, the appointment underscores a clear shift toward heightened regulatory scrutiny, noting that Newsom “has signaled that California will more aggressively regulate and monitor companies that serve consumers and small and medium-sized businesses.”
