BOSTON – May 29, 2026 –Roman Fayerberg and Andrew (A.J.) Tibbetts, shareholders in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Boston office, presented the session, “Protecting Innovation in Robotics: IP Strategies that Work,” at the Robotics Summit & Expo May 27.
The session explored practical intellectual property (IP) strategies that robotics innovators can use to safeguard their inventions, navigate global patent landscapes, and maintain competitive advantage in a fast-evolving field. Fayerberg and Tibbetts addressed key points, including:
- Implementing processes to identify and protect novel technologies.
- Developing a strategic patent portfolio to secure a competitive edge in the robotics market by using both offensive and defensive strategies.
- Understanding the robotics patent landscape to guide product development, avoid infringement risks, and align IP strategy with technological roadmaps.

- Preparing for IP due diligence from both the investor/acquirer and target perspectives, with an emphasis on the unique considerations in the robotics sector.
In connection with the conference, Greenberg Traurig hosted a networking reception May 26 in the firm’s Boston office for attendees of the Robotics Summit & Expo and DeviceTalks Boston.
Fayerberg, co-chair of the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice in Greenberg Traurig’s Boston office, is a registered patent attorney with broad experience helping clients strategically protect and leverage their innovations globally. He works with clients to develop and manage worldwide patent portfolios and counsels clients regarding freedom to operate, patent landscape, and patent infringement and validity matters. Fayerberg also conducts and defends patent due diligence investigations in connection with venture capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, and licensing opportunities. He has represented clients ranging from startups to global companies in a variety of technical areas, including medical devices, robotics, diagnostic and imaging systems, microfluidic devices, and biotechnology.
Tibbetts, an Intellectual Property & Technology shareholder, leverages prior experience as a software engineer to provide business-oriented intellectual property strategies for software, artificial intelligence, and electronics-based technologies. He counsels on matters related to software-implemented tech across a range of industries, from networking, fintech, and natural language processing to life sciences, AI, medical records, and medical devices. Tibbetts advises a wide array of clients, ranging from international and publicly traded companies and large research institutions to small and growing companies. He serves on the board of directors of MassMEDIC and HealthTech Build, helping to support digital health efforts in the New England area.
