Greenberg Traurig’s Anthony E. Guzman II Chairs and Alice L. Kessler and Philip I. Person Speak at 2022 BASF Diversity Conference

SAN FRANCISCO – Nov. 29, 2022 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP Sacramento Shareholder Alice L. Kessler and San Francisco Shareholder Philip I. Person will speak at the 2022 Bar Association of San Francisco Diversity Conference Dec. 1. San Francisco Associate Anthony E. Guzman II is the planning committee chair of the conference.  

Kessler will join a panel titled “Moving Past Performative Diversity and Inclusion” at 1:30 p.m. The program will discuss meaningful cultural change in recruiting, retaining, and promoting underrepresented attorneys in 2022.

At 2:55 p.m., Person will join a panel titled “Stronger Together: Diversity and Inclusion in Project Staffing.” The panel will discuss how in-house and outside counsel can collaborate to ensure that diverse attorneys are represented in pitches and projects, mentorship, and sponsorship opportunities. The session will also discuss how implicit bias can stand as an obstacle and how to interrupt implicit bias in these settings.

Kessler is the co-leader of the California Government Law & Policy Practice in the firm’s Sacramento office. She is an accomplished legislative strategist and leader with a track record of rapid advancement grounded in proven strategic and communication talents, collaborative skills, and trusted integrity. She has deep relationships with California policymakers, thought leaders, and community-based organizations. Kessler leverages her well-honed skills to build consensus, gain buy-in, and motivate team members and partners.

Person, a member of the Labor & Employment Practice in the firm’s San Francisco office and co-lead of the California Wage & Hour Taskforce, focuses on representing employers in wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, trade secret misappropriation, non-competition, non-solicitation, and whistleblower claims, as well as labor and employment arbitrations. Additionally, Person counsels and advises clients on various employment issues and coordinates with executives and management to develop plans to mitigate employer risk. He co-hosts The Performance Review, Greenberg Traurig’s California labor and employment podcast.

Guzman represents employers in traditional labor disputes and complex wage and hour class and collective actions. He regularly works with employers in the health care, energy, logistics, and agricultural sectors in developing strategies for union-election campaigns, workplace litigation, and executive employment agreements. Guzman has argued in both federal and state court, as well as before government agencies such as the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement and National Labor Relations Board. He also serves as one of the coaches for U.C. Berkeley, School of Law mock trial program.
