Greenberg Traurig’s Venezuela Working Group brings together lawyers whose experience spans economic sanctions and regulatory compliance, energy transactions, international trade, cross-border litigation, corporate finance, privatizations, and criminal investigations. The group's experience reflects both historical engagement with Venezuela’s commercial and financial sectors prior to the imposition of broad U.S. economic sanctions, as well as active, current advisory work helping clients navigate the complex economic sanctions environment that governs Venezuelan-related activity today. Our Capabilities

Economic Sanctions, Export Controls & Regulatory Compliance

The GT team provides clients with holistic international trade compliance advice and support covering export controls, import regulation, economic sanctions compliance and related regulatory considerations. We routinely assist clients to assess and determine the application of export controls and import restrictions (and available General Licenses) for activities involving Venezuela. We support clients’ efforts to seek requisite U.S. Government authorizations from agencies such as the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry & Security (BIS), among others.

The Working Group includes lawyers with substantial experience across the energy and infrastructure sectors, including matters involving upstream oil and gas operations, LNG development, project finance, power generation, and strategic infrastructure investments. Team members advise clients on oil and gas partnerships, cross-border energy transactions, and infrastructure projects involving Venezuelan entities and neighboring markets.

Representative matters include valuation of expropriated oil and gas assets, financing arrangements tied to oil-backed structures, and advice regarding geopolitical risks impacting energy projects in the region. The group also advises on projects involving mining, industrial operations, telecommunications infrastructure, and cross-border logistics.
