Practising Law Institute's (PLI) Understanding the Intellectual Property License 2022

This introductory course will give attendees a comprehensive review of basic elements and practical considerations when engaging in licensing agreements for a variety of intellectual property formats. Faculty will address legal strategies and everyday skills to apply when licensing patents, copyrights, the right of celebrity, trademarks, software or any combination of these types of IP, along with special circumstances that may arise, such as potential litigation and regulatory, international, bankruptcy or antitrust issues. Attendees will learn: Copyright, trademark, software and patent licensing; rights of publicity and entertainment licensing; protection and enforcement issues in cross-border IP licensing; enforcing licenses – tips from an IP license litigator; Antitrust issues in IP licenses; treatment of IP licenses under bankruptcy law; and how licensing can generate new revenue. This program will be in person and available via webinar. 

At 2:30 pm PST on December 9th, GT Shareholder Paul McQuade will be present on, "Regulatory and Government Issues in IP Licensing," which will discuss licensing IP from the government: required clauses, enforcement, march-in rights, and traps for the unwary; licensing IP to the government: marking, monitoring, minimum rights, open-source issues and remedies for infringement; and impact of government preferences on licensing: domestic manufacture, offshore R&D, and open-source requirements at the state and federal levels.
