Howard E. Silverman is Co-Chair of the Chicago Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. He focuses his practice on U.S. and foreign patent, trademark and copyright matters, with particular concentration on the electrical arts and computer software, including prosecution, litigation and transactional matters.

  • Represented Rotunda Capital Partners in the acquisition of IF&P Foods, a leading distributor of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other essential produce items to grocers and retailers in more than 14 Midwestern states.
  • Represented FuelQuest Inc., a leading on-demand software and services company for the global downstream energy industry, in the sale of its Zytax energy-related tax automation business to Avalara, a leading cloud-based sales tax and compliance automation technology provider. Oversaw the labor and employment law aspects of the transaction, including negotiation of employment-related terms of the deal, and structuring and advice regarding federal and various state employment law compliance issues. 
  • Represented VTech Holdings, Ltd. and its many global subsidiaries in connection with their worldwide intellectual property matters.
  • Represented German machine tool industry members in a patent infringement matter resulting in favorable finding of inequitable conduct and unenforceability of complex electro-mechanical patents.
  • Represented an electronic consumer product design and development group in connection with intellectual property protection.
