Dr. Myers represents life science companies, startups, and investors in licensing, intellectual property matters, strategic transactions, and regulatory compliance, with particular focus on neurotech, artificial intelligence, medical devices, and biotechnology sectors, including space-based life sciences and pharmacology applications. He brings a rare combination of deep technical expertise, in-house legal leadership experience, and law firm experience to his practice, having served as senior vice president and head of legal at People.ai, an enterprise AI company backed by Y Combinator, Lightspeed, Andreessen Horowitz, and ICONIQ.

At People.ai, Dr. Myers led the legal function from Series C through unicorn status. During his time at People.ai he worked on equity funding rounds, debt financing transactions, and two corporate acquisitions. He developed the company’s AI patent portfolio, resulting in over 100 issued patents within five years, which were strategically asserted against competitors. Dr. Myers negotiated data licensing agreements for AI training datasets with multiple providers, establishing terms for data sourcing and usage rights while implementing privacy safeguards. He also negotiated contracts with Fortune 500 enterprise customers across multiple industries, partnering with their senior executives on data processing and AI governance frameworks.

Dr. Myers’s intellectual property practice encompasses patent portfolio development, freedom-to-operate analyses, and IP due diligence for investments and acquisitions. His doctoral training and prior experience developing medical devices give him particular depth in advising clients on strategic development of patent portfolios in AI systems, microfluidic and lab-on-a-chip technology, bioprocessing systems, robotic medical devices, imaging systems, and neural interfaces. His IP due diligence work includes assessments of competitive landscapes, patent portfolio strength, and potential legal risks to inform leadership decisions on transactions. In the area of regulatory compliance, Dr. Myers counsels clients on emerging technology regulations, having built compliance programs addressing General Data Protection Regulation, California Consumer Privacy Act, and the EU AI Act. He provides guidance on AI product development, data usage rights, and privacy compliance, working directly with product and engineering teams to align legal requirements with technical implementation.

Dr. Myers holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Florida, where he completed a joint program between the College of Engineering and College of Medicine focusing on neuromodulation for epilepsy control. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Neurology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. After transitioning from academia, Dr. Myers worked as an engineer developing control systems for patient monitors and ventilators before moving to law.
