Ryan T. Hopper practices with the firm’s litigation group, focusing on environmental, business, and white-collar matters. Ryan’s experience has an emphasis on high-profile environmental and toxic-tort litigation. In the last year, he has played an integral role in assisting his litigation team resolve air- and groundwater-contamination actions involving well over $100 million in claimed damages.

Ryan draws on his multi-disciplinary practice and his experience as a law clerk to resolve cases creatively and efficiently. In addition to his environmental litigation experience, Ryan helps shareholders at Greenberg Traurig represent clients in complex, international white-collar matters as well as products-liability, real-estate, and securities litigation. When he is not representing clients, Ryan contributes to environmental and criminal publications.

Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Ryan served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Roy B. “Skip” Dalton Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Ryan received both his J.D., magna cum laude, and his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Florida, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif.



  • Irizarry et al. v. Orlando Utilities Commission et al. Currently defending the Orlando Utilities Commission in a putative class action brought by residents alleging that emissions from a power plant contaminated properties within a 5.5 mile radius with radionuclides, metals, and other constituents thereby elevating cancer rates.
  • Williams v. Mosaic Fertilizer.  Currently defending Mosaic in federal toxic tort litigation in which the plaintiff alleges that she suffered adverse health effects as a result of exposure to industrial emissions.  The trial court entered summary judgment in Mosaic’s favor, and the plaintiff has appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.  
  • CCP Harbour Island, LLC v CPPM THP, LLC. Currently representing a major real estate developer in multiple cases concerning commercial real estate development on Harbour Island. 
  • Boca Grande Isle LLC v. Boca Grande Isles Property Owners Association.  Currently representing clients in a dispute regarding the validity of an amendment to a private waterfront subdivision’s declaration of restrictions.  The trial court entered summary judgment in the clients’ favor, and the opposing parties have appealed to Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal.
  • Confidential Client.  Currently defending a foreign client in connection with the investigation of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) in the Southern District of New York.
  • Confidential Client.  Successfully defended a chemical manufacturer in a wrongful death action, obtaining the plaintiff’s voluntary dismissal with prejudice following a targeted discovery strategy.
  • Jameson Land Co. v. Mosaic Fertilizer.  Successfully defended Mosaic in federal litigation involving multiple parcels of real property located in Hillsborough and Polk Counties.
