Greenberg Traurig’s Jaret Davis Receives Jurisprudence Award from Anti-Defamation League

MIAMI – Nov. 16, 2022 – Jaret L. Davis, co-managing shareholder of the Miami office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig P.A., received a Jurisprudence Award from the Florida chapter of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Davis was honored at the organization’s 30th anniversary awards luncheon Nov. 15 at the InterContinental Miami.

The Jurisprudence Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the legal profession and the community, while exemplifying the principles and mission of the ADL: to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and secure justice and fair treatment for all.

“Organizations like the ADL are critical to further creating an inclusive society where civil discourse and respect for people’s differences are valued and encouraged,” Davis said. “I am both proud and humbled to receive this award, as it represents a commitment to fostering communication and understanding among people from different cultures and faith communities – something I have consistently tried to do throughout my life and career. Past winners of the Jurisprudence Award include some amazing South Floridians, and to be considered in the same light as them is a profound honor.”

Davis was recognized for his civic work in building bridges among ethnically and racially diverse groups in Miami with a goal of building a better community for everyone. He has collaborated with or served on the boards of organizations such as MCCJ (formerly the Miami Coalition of Christians and Jews), the American Jewish Committee, and EmgageUSA, which seeks to empower Muslim Americans through political literacy and civic engagement. He served as a founding member of EmgageUSA’s national board and was the sole non-Muslim member. Through his efforts, Davis developed strategies to build common ground and assist these organizations in advocacy for the Jewish and Muslim communities, as well as enhance their effectiveness in achieving outreach to other communities, most notably the African American community and the local technology ecosystem.

“Jaret is the moral conscience of our community,” said Saif Ishoof, who co-chaired the Jurisprudence event for the ADL and presented Davis with the award. “There are few other people who have the ability like he does to create space for uncomfortable conversations. He has helped to lay the groundwork for the Miami we see today, a place that is committed to a sense of pluralism and a Miami that has no place for grotesque forms of hatred.”

In his speech, Davis called on others in the community to combat the hate that is on the rise by promoting more education and awareness of the root cause.

“Hate is definitely on the rise, but that’s simply the final product,” Davis said. “The beginning of that process is moral and intellectual laziness, which we are seeing at an alarming rate. I’m talking about the ease and comfort with assigning blame for individual wrongdoing to an entire group with which that individual may be affiliated.”

As Miami co-managing shareholder, Davis oversees approximately 170 attorneys and 200 business staff members based in the firm’s founding office. He focuses his corporate and securities practice on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, and complex secured financings, and has served as lead attorney on some of the most consequential technology transactions in South Florida.

Davis recently concluded a four-year term as chairman of the Board of Directors of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and continues to serve as chairman of Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, a physician-directed, multi-specialty pediatric group. He currently serves

as a co-founder and general counsel of the eMerge Americas global technology conference, which has played a critical role in launching Miami’s current tech movement. He served as chair of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council and is a board member for the Miami Foundation, Venture for America, and City National Bank of Florida.

“We are thrilled to pay tribute to Mr. Davis as we celebrate his dedication to the pursuit of justice and our community’s well-being, especially during these challenging times,” ADL Florida Regional Director Sarah Emmons said. “Jaret and his firm, Greenberg Traurig, remain dedicated to uplifting our communities and keeping them strong. They selflessly give back wherever they can and are true partners in helping to make this world a better place.”
