James C. Fraser and Ginger Pigott to Speak at 2022 Food and Drug Law Institute Annual Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 1, 2022 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP Shareholders James C. Fraser and Ginger Pigott will serve as panelists at the 2022 Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) Annual Conference: Exploring Advanced Topics in Food and Drug Law in Washington, D.C. June 15. The conference addresses complex legal, compliance, policy, and regulatory issues in many facets of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-related industry.

Fraser will speak on “Trends and Risks in Medical Device Enforcement and Litigation,” which session will explore the increase in FDA enforcement actions, including resources to carry out these actions. Panelists will also address areas of focus for government enforcement and litigation, including COVID-19 and laboratory testing, and legal theories being utilized.

Pigott’s panel, “Top Cases in Food and Drug Law,” will discuss significant current and future litigation.

Fraser, a former associate chief counsel at the FDA, represents and advises pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, and other industry clients in FDA-related regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters. He also represents pharmaceutical and medical device companies in mass tort and other product liability litigation. Fraser’s litigation work at FDA included defending the agency against Administrative Procedure Act challenges to FDA’s decisions regarding FDA-regulated products, bringing civil enforcement actions against FDA-regulated companies for violations of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and drafting amicus curiae and other filings advocating FDA’s positions on federal preemption and preclusion. Fraser also has over 12 years of private practice experience defending pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in products liability and mass tort litigation throughout the United States.

Pigott provides critical product liability advice and litigation defense to emerging and established businesses. As a shareholder in the firm’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device & Health Care Litigation Practice, she manages products liability litigation matters with an emphasis on the defense of complex medical device and pharmaceutical products. Pigott handles high-stakes, single-plaintiff cases and complex litigation, including multidistrict litigation, coordinated state actions, and class actions working as both national and regional counsel. She also works with companies to reduce and eliminate litigation risk through essential assessment and review of potential product liability exposure, including helping to organize and establish more effective claims handling in pre-litigation as well as in identifying and reducing risk-producing activities and providing information to allow companies to understand triggers for potential exposure and manage such risks.
