Jacob M. Abdo counsels clients on trademark, copyright, advertising, marketing, and brand protection matters. He represents companies ranging from emerging growth businesses to multinational organizations across a broad range of industries, including software, consumer products, food and beverage, healthcare, life sciences, digital media, financial technology, and e-commerce.
Jake advises clients on all aspects of brand development, protection, and commercialization. His practice includes domestic and international trademark clearance, prosecution, portfolio management, enforcement, licensing, and global brand protection strategies. He regularly assists clients with building and managing trademark portfolios worldwide and represents clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).
Jake works collaboratively with clients to develop intellectual property strategies that support product launches, market expansion, and long-term brand value, while also addressing trademark and copyright issues arising from emerging technologies and digital business models.
In addition to trademark matters, Jake advises clients on copyright protection, registration, licensing, and enforcement, as well as advertising, marketing, and media law issues. He counsels clients on matters involving digital content, online platforms, social media and influencer marketing. He also advises on intellectual property aspects of mergers, acquisitions, financings, and other strategic transactions, including trademark and copyright due diligence and the evaluation of intellectual property assets and risks.
Jake is a frequent author and speaker on intellectual property and emerging technology issues. His scholarship has been published in national and international law journals and addresses topics including trademark law, copyright law, artificial intelligence, brand protection, and digital commerce. His writings have been recognized by courts, including citation to one of his published articles by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in a copyright class action.
