Tyler J. Thompson

Tyler J. Thompson advises clients on data privacy and protection, technology and commercial contracts, cybersecurity, and consumer protection. Tyler offers clients practical and efficient legal counsel, striving to manage costs as well as risk while finding business-friendly solutions.

Tyler has designed and implemented privacy programs for clients from Fortune 500s to start ups, ensuring those clients are compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other U.S. and international privacy laws.

Tyler’s counsel extends to the consumer protection space as well, advising clients on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and related laws. He has drafted website terms of use and eCommerce agreements for major international brands, and advising clients on digital marketing compliance.

In the technology space, Tyler has provided guidance on open source software, digital marketing, software licensing, and SaaS agreements. Tyler’s practice also includes emerging technologies such as social media marketing and influencers, AR/VR, mobile applications, distributed ledger and blockchain, and UAVs. He also works with clients to modernize commercial contracting processes and privacy practices, enabling in-house attorneys to function more efficiently and conserve resources.

Tyler is certified as a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals. In addition, he is a Certified Information Privacy Professional for the United States (CIPP/US) and Europe (CIPP/E) as well as a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPP/T).

Tyler is also an adjunct M.B.A. professor at the University of Denver Daniel’s School of Business, an FAA certified private pilot, and a PADI certified SCUBA diver.
