PLI's Advanced Internet of Things 2025: Deeper Dive, Practical Wisdom

Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Ian C. Ballon, Co-Chair of the Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice, will present on December 8 at 2:15 pm PT at PLI’s Advanced Internet of Things 2025: Deeper Dive, Practical Wisdom program. Attendees may participate either in person in San Francisco, or online. Hosted by PLI, this program will focus on the IoT landscape and how it is everywhere, creating enormous amounts of data while directly interacting with people. This program explores the unique legal challenges these devices present, including contracting, cybersecurity and privacy, data ownership, and the added risks of AI-enabled operation.

Ian will present the session "IoT Litigation—Identifying and Mitigating Risk", and will explore emerging liability issues connected to IoT technologies, including both direct and secondary responsibility, as well as the impact of preemption and immunity principles. Topics include product liability, privacy concerns, and contractual risks that may arise when IoT devices malfunction or behave unexpectedly. The program will also highlight practical strategies organizations can implement to help mitigate potential exposure.
