Carol Hopper advises funds, investors, bank and non-bank lenders, and corporate clients on a wide array of domestic and international real estate transactions. She acts for investors at all levels of the capital stack and across the full risk spectrum. Carol has over 30 years of experience working on real estate deals in a wide range of sub-sectors, including office, retail, industrial, residential, hotel/ leisure, education, infrastructure/energy (particularly energy-from-waste and windfarms), and public/private finance transactions.



  • Acted for Nuveen (previously TH Real Estate) on a loan to facilitate the purchase and refurbishment of an office building in North London for co-working space.
  • Acted for Europa Capital in providing finance for a number of acquisitions and development projects with borrowers particularly in the co-working and private rented sectors.
  • Acted for the leading listed global packaging business in the U.K. on a £300 million combined heat and power facility in Kent. The completed facility was expected to generate over 40 MW of sustainable electricity to power U.K. homes and businesses.°
  • Acted for TH Real Estate, a leading real estate investment firm, in providing finance for a portfolio of commercial properties in London. The properties are being converted into co-working office spaces.°
  • Acted for one of the world’s largest investment funds based in the United States on several real estate matters, including on the sale of a major European shopping centre and on joint venture arrangements creating platform opportunities particularly in the private rented sector and on generating senior living accommodation in greater London.°
  • Acted for an institutional investor as one of the portfolio of investors into the joint venture known as Accor Invest, owner of in excess of €6bn hotel portfolio of some of Europe's leading and best known hotel brands.
  • Acted for a U.K.-based investment institution on the first-ever shared equity residential mortgage back securitisation, including the transaction to acquire the portfolio of mortgages, as well as the securitisation to fund the acquisition.°
  • Acted for APG, the Netherlands based privately owned pensions and investments manager, on its acquisition of a 75 percent interest in the Edinburgh St James Shopping Centre with the Henderson UK Shopping Centre Fund.°
  • Acted for Goldman Sachs as arranger and lender in relation to its participation in the facility provided to Cory Environmental to refinance and then reconstruct what is due to become the UK's largest energy-from-waste site in Bexley, South London.
  • Acted for a leading European real estate investment and asset manager on its acquisition and subsequent disposal of various corporate vehicles and JPUTs holding a variety of different kinds of real estate assets, including office, retail and hotels.
  • Acted for a leading European packaging company in relation to its real estate projects at its largest paper mill in Europe.°
  • Acted for a motorway services and hotels company on several of their motorway service areas including advising them on sales of the corporate group and three re-financings, as well as various real estate/landlord and tenant matters.°
  • Acted for a global infrastructure business on its building schools for the future programme and on its OFTO acquisition of transmission assets of offshore wind farms.°
