Richard is an infrastructure attorney with a particular focus on the energy, infrastructure and transport sectors. He has built a strong reputation based on advising financiers, franchise owning groups and government on issues of rolling stock procurement and financing, rail franchising, and third-party investment in rail infrastructure. Richard has advised on several of the most innovative rail finance deals on the international market.

  • Advising a major European energy provider on the English law aspects of its cooperation with a power plant operator on the conversion of coal fired power stations to alternative and sustainable use of primary energy, including hydrogen, and the establishment of a 1+ GW blue hydrogen plant on one of the power plant sites.
  • Advising the owner in respect of the sale of a €500 million European rolling stock portfolio.
  • Advising a global bank on the development of a new $1.5 billion blended finance platform to drive the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across India.
  • Advising the lessor on the financing of a service operation vessel used for maintaining a major offshore windfarm.
  • Advising financiers on the development and implementation of the innovative funding of a major railway depot to be used for an £800 million fleet of new rolling stock.°
  • Advising the lessors on the procurement, financing, leasing and maintenance of a £1.2 billion order of new rolling stock.°
  • Advising the lender on the sale and leaseback financing on a £1 billion order of new rolling stock.°
  • Advising the lessor on the bonding arrangements and delivery into service of a £260 million fleet of new rolling stock.°
  • Advising a manufacturer on the manufacturing and maintenance agreements in relation to £350 million order of new rolling stock.°
  • Advising a manufacturer on a bid valued at £500 million for the manufacture and maintenance of new rolling stock.°
  • Advising franchise operators in relation to franchise bids and award negotiations, including the procurement of various fleets of new rolling stock.°
  • Undertook a secondment with one of the largest rail franchise operators as the UK commercial contracts legal advisor.°
  • Advising a government on the procurement of rail services under their devolved powers.°
