Shawn Ronda focuses his practice on commercial real estate transactions. Shawn guides clients through virtually all aspects of real estate acquisitions and dispositions as well as finance, leasing, and real estate development, with an emphasis on real estate for mixed-use, multi-family, hotel, medical office, student housing, senior housing, and storage facility projects, both in the Chicago area and throughout the United States. Shawn regularly represents developers, institutional clients, private equity companies, investors, and joint venture partners.

Shawn advises clients on portfolio transactions and sale/leaseback transactions across a wide variety of asset classes. He counsels clients with respect to the real estate related aspects of mergers and acquisitions, regularly handling the negotiation of asset purchase agreements and merger documents, as well as the implementation of due diligence strategies and activities.

Shawn is also committed to pro bono work, having assisted the Lawyers' Committee for Better Housing with ongoing eviction cases, and the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law with election protection matters. Further, Shawn is committed to the local community with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion matters, serving on the Program Committee of ULI Chicago, the Board of Directors of Family Rescue Inc., and the Associate Board of the Chicago Committee for Minorities in Large Law Firms.

  • Represented a Chicago-based private equity company with respect to the financing of the approximately U.S. $1.9 billion acquisition of a portfolio of student housing projects throughout the United States.°
  • Represented a New York-based private equity company in the vertical separation and sale of retail and office components of landmarked property in downtown Chicago for an aggregate sale price of approximately U.S. $350 million.°
  • Represented a Chicago-based private equity company in the sale of student housing portfolios valued at U.S. $465 million and U.S. $1 billion, respectively.°
  • Represented a religious institution in the approximately U.S. $110 million sale of real property for the development of a multi-tower, mixed-use project in the River North neighborhood of Chicago.°
  • Represented a multinational telecommunications company in sale and redevelopment of portions of corporate campus in Schaumburg, Illinois.°
  • Represented an American food company in sale and leaseback of portion of industrial site for redevelopment as a mixed-use project along the Chicago riverfront.°
  • Represented joint venture partners in the acquisition, development, and financing of a senior housing facility in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.°
  • Represented joint venture partners in the acquisition, development, and financing of a multi-family project in Phoenix, Arizona.°
  • Represented a private equity company in the acquisition, development, and financing of medical office buildings in San Diego, California.°
  • Represented an Atlanta-based private equity company in the acquisition and disposition of various car wash and quick-oil change facilities throughout the United States.°
