Lisa Li focuses her practice on U.S. and China cross-border transactions and litigations, particularly in matters involving technology companies, venture capital, and real estate. She is knowledgeable of the business, cultural, and legal environments in China and the United States.

Lisa represents a broad range of public, private, and startup clients, ranging from mobile app developers, game developers, app publishers, ecommerce retailers, cloud service providers, to manufacturers of consumer electronics, mobile phones, and electric cars.

Lisa has considerable experience in U.S. patent, trademark, and copyright laws, as well as the procurement and protection of intellectual property globally. Lisa practices before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, federal district courts, and the International Trade Commission. In addition, Lisa serves in the role of outside general counsel to a number of U.S. subsidiaries of Chinese and Taiwanese companies and routinely advises on their U.S. operation, asset management, employment, export and import, investments, licensing, and product liability issues.

Lisa also counsels many China-based real estate developers on corporate formation, joint venture, investment structure, legal due diligence, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution involving the lease, acquisition, construction, and renovation of residential condominiums, office buildings, data centers, and warehouses.

  • Represented a large Chinese investment conglomerate in its first real estate acquisition in the U.S.
  • Represented a Chinese real estate developer in constructing multiple high-rise residential condominiums in California.
  • Advised app and game developers in DMCA compliance and defense.
  • Defended ecommerce platforms against claims of direct and indirect liabilities for trademark infringement.
  • Defended a leading smartphone and tablet manufacturer in parallel infringement lawsuits involving standard essential patents involving LTE security technology filed in the U.S., the Netherlands, Germany and U.K.°
  • Defended a software company in parallel U.S. and U.K. proceedings involving copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation and breach of license agreements.°
  • Defended a leading camera and film manufacturer in parallel U.S. and Chinese trial and appellate proceedings involving breach of patent license agreements and enforcement of judgment in foreign jurisdictions.°
  • Advised a leading U.S. chemical company on monetizing and enforcing its acquired patents on polypropylene polymerization apparatus and method against competitors and potential customers in China. Assessed validity of Chinese patents comparatively with U.S. and European counterpart patents. Collaborated with Chinese local counsel and authority in collecting and preserving evidence of catalysts and end products from infringers in preparation of licensing negotiation and filing lawsuits in China.°
  • Lead associate representing a Chinese software company and app developer in cross-border lawsuit involving copyright infringement, trademark dilution, trade libel, unfair competition, and false advertising claims against a competitor.°
  • Lead associate in a multiparty, multimillion-dollar breach of contract lawsuit involving complex transnational divestitures, license agreements, and asset transfers of wireless LAN technology involving a U.S. telecommunications conglomerate and a Chinese computer manufacturer.°
  • Represented a Taiwanese chip designer and manufacturer at parallel district court and ITC patent infringement trials involving inverter technology.°
  • Lead associate in defending a major U.S. mobile telecommunications company against a non-practicing entity involving alleged infringement of ring-back tone patents.°
  • Represented a licensing company in parallel district court and ITC patent infringement trials involving Ethernet technology.°
  • Lead associate in a multimillion-dollar breach of contract case on behalf of a global energy company involving cross-license agreements and sale of a global patent portfolio covering magnetic coupler technology.°
  • Represented a large internet company in assessing the strength of its patent portfolio.°
