NEW YORK — June 1, 2023 – Barbara T. Kaplan and Sharon Katz-Pearlman, shareholders in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Tax Practice in New York, will speak at the NYU School of Professional Studies 15th Annual Tax Controversy Forum June 8 at The Westin New York at Times Square.
Kaplan, who also serves as co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Tax Practice, will speak on the panel, “Effectively Navigating The LB&I Examination Process: Tips and Strategies For Responding To Information Document Requests” at 3:20 p.m. Kaplan was named “Lawyer of the Year,” Litigation and Controversy –Tax, New York City, 2020 by Best Lawyers in America, named to the “top 50 women lawyers in New York City” list by Super Lawyers magazine, selected as a World Tax Leader by International Tax Review in 2023 and is a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. She focuses her tax litigation practice on domestic and foreign corporations, partnerships, and individuals in federal, state, and local tax examinations, controversies, and litigation, including administrative and grand jury criminal tax investigations.
Katz-Pearlman will moderate the panel “What’s Next For The IRS? An Update From Senior IRS Leadership”. The session will take place at 8:45 a.m. She focuses her practice on the representation of large multinationals, partnerships, and other taxpayers before the IRS, representing clients from the pre-exam phase through examination, appeals, and into litigation if necessary. Much of her work involves the resolution of multinationals’ cross-border transfer pricing matters as well as advising multinationals on how to navigate today’s challenging global tax disputes landscape. Katz-Pearlman was named to International Tax Review’s 2023 World Tax Leaders, Women in Tax, and Tax Controversy Leaders. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at NYU Law School where she teaches Civil Tax Controversies & Litigation and is a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.
