Greenberg Traurig Receives 2 Prestigious Pro Bono Awards from Leading Social Justice Organizations

New York Legal Assistance Group, Human Rights First Recognize the Firm

NEW YORK –Oct. 26, 2022– Coinciding with the weeklong National Celebration of Pro Bono, global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP received two awards for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to pro bono, particularly on behalf of refugees over the last year.

On Oct. 24, Human Rights First presented the firm with a Marvin E. Frankel Award for Pro Bono Service for “accomplishment and their continued commitment to life-saving pro bono work.” The award is named in memory of Marvin E. Frankel, who, in addition to his career as a federal judge, was a founder of Human Rights First and former chairman of the board of directors. The Frankel Award “is presented annually to law firms that demonstrate outstanding commitment to pro bono service, helping Human Rights First achieve justice for refugees in the United States,” Human Rights First said in a press release.

A longtime partner to Human Rights First, attorneys from the firm’s Los Angeles and Orange County offices took on seven new cases in 2021, assisting a total of 17 refugees as a result.

On Oct. 27, New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) will present Greenberg Traurig with its Champion of Justice award, its highest and most prestigious honor. NYLAG selected the firm to recognize its work this year on behalf of Ukrainian refugees in the United States by taking on more than 100 applications to obtain Temporary Protected Status, employment authorization, and advanced parole.

“It is a privilege to work with hundreds of Greenberg Traurig attorneys and staff on pro bono matters and to witness them meet moments of crisis time and again, and we are honored to be recognized by two of our longtime partners in this work,” Chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Pro Bono Program and New York Litigation Shareholder Caroline Heller said. “The firm is in a unique position to assist refugees because we have both a strong immigration practice as well as attorneys and staff throughout the United States and around the world who are committed to supporting those escaping war and persecution. We are proud of the pro bono work our attorneys and staff do each year as well as the philanthropic support they and our firm provide to others.”

Greenberg Traurig’s commitment to leveraging its platform to serve communities allows it to give a voice to those in need and maximize the impact of its pro bono efforts. Whether through philanthropic and volunteer efforts, the firm’s commitment to providing pro bono legal services, or participation in sustainability initiatives, its professionals take pride in directly and positively impacting the communities they serve.

Complementing the services Greenberg Traurig’s individual lawyers provide, the Holly Skolnick Fellowship Foundation enables the firm to serve as the largest sponsor of Equal Justice Works.
