WARSAW, August 24, 2020 - Greenberg Traurig advised Ekstraklasa S.A. on the settlements with TV broadcasters, CANAL + and TVP, as well as on the sale of media rights relating to the Polish premier football league, to these broadcasters for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the suspension of Polish football competitions and uncertainty about their continuation in the current and future seasons, as well as the dramatic decline in clubs’ income resulting in a realistic risk of loss of their financial liquidity, Ekstraklasa as the company in charge of the competitions and media rights related thereto, has been working to minimize the impact of these extraordinary circumstances.
Greenberg Traurig represented Ekstraklasa S.A. at all stages of the negotiations and settlements with CANAL + and TVP and the sale of media rights to these broadcasters.
The total value of contracts for the four seasons (2019/20 – 2022/23), together with the costs of TV signal production amounts to PLN 1 billion.
