Philip J. Hoffmann, a former Administrative Patent Judge at the USPTO, has more than 20 years of experience representing clients in intellectual property matters, with an emphasis on PTAB proceeding, patent prosecution, and IP counseling. He focuses his practice on America Invents Act (AIA) trials, including inter partes review (IPR), covered business method reviews (CBMs), and post-grant review (PGR) at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and he counsels clients on related patent matters.

As an Administrative Patent Judge at the USPTO for more than eight years, Phil authored more than 600 opinions for the Board and gained familiarity with AIA procedures and handled cases involving a range of technologies, including mechanical, electrical, business methods, design, financial technology (fintech), and software. Prior to practicing law, Phil was a patent examiner with the USPTO. He also has experience as an astronautics engineer, exposing him to all stages of the patent life cycle including inventing, preparing, filing, prosecuting, deciding, and judging.
