Marcelo Barros litigates complex intellectual property and emerging technology disputes across federal and state courts. He handles high-stakes matters involving trade secrets and software in the healthcare and AI sectors, trademark and unfair competition claims in SaaS and insurance, and cryptocurrency disputes, including civil forfeiture actions involving hundreds of millions of dollars and cross-border asset recovery. Marcelo also litigates cases implicating the CFAA, antitrust law, and defamation. Marcelo has extensive experience in patent litigation, representing clients in various federal jurisdictions and and PTAB proceedings spanning industries in electronics, automotive, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. Marcelo also regularly advises clients on a wide variety of internet law issues.

His technical background in biomedical engineering and bioengineering provides him versatility to handle a wide range of technical fields, ranging from life sciences and medical device companies, to electronics and computer technology sectors.

Marcelo brings deep research experience to his legal practice. His scientific background includes developing FRET-based biosensors to investigate proteins involved in heart failure during his graduate studies at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute. As a systems integration engineer for a genomic sequencing company, he designed, analyzed, and validated improvements to gene sequencing platforms. This interdisciplinary experience involved collaboration with chemists, molecular biologists, biochemists, bioinformaticians, and hardware engineers in fields such as optics and imaging. His laboratory background includes proficiency in various wet lab techniques and molecular biology methods.
