Meet the Team >

Greenberg Traurig’s Water Law team comprises attorneys with deep experience and knowledge in water law who dedicate their practices to advising clients on the broad range of water-related issues that arise in complex domestic and international transactions; litigation matters and administrative proceedings; and facility/project operations and compliance. We partner with clients to address water rights and water supply matters throughout the United States, including water quality issues arising under the federal Clean Water Act and similar environmental programs in other jurisdictions.

We represent a diverse spectrum of clients, including those in the energy, agriculture (including aquaculture), mining, industrial, financial, land/resort development, and government sectors. Our multidisciplinary team also offers strategic planning, development, and implementation of water supply plans, and assists with the selection and retention of qualified technical experts to manage complex water matters in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

Water Rights

Our Water Law attorneys represent clients’ interests in virtually all types of water-related transactions, including water rights acquisitions/leases; complex financings and other corporate transactions; water supply agreements/plans for energy and industrial projects; the development of water supplies for residential and resort developments; and water infrastructure projects in the United States, Latin America, and internationally.

We also handle water-related litigation (in both state and federal courts, and in specialized water courts) and contested administrative proceedings involving the adjudication of water rights, changes of water rights, complex water plans, regulatory enforcement, and water rights disputes. In addition, we regularly work with local, state, and federal government authorities concerning water policy and legislative issues that impact our clients.

Water Quality

Our attorneys utilize the firm’s vast global resources to address client needs. Our Environmental Practice regularly assists clients across industries with issues involving the environmental and natural resource laws that impact their businesses, including the federal Clean Water Act, state/local water quality laws and regulations, and parallel programs in other jurisdictions. We assist in water quality enforcement actions; permit proceedings and regulatory compliance matters; state and federal court litigation (including in the U.S. Supreme Court) involving water quality issues; legacy cleanups; water discharge/permitting policy challenges; and sustainability initiatives. Our team’s broad geographic footprint and depth of experience provide practical strategies for clients facing water quality and other environmental challenges.
