TOKYO – Sept. 21, 2021 – Joel Rothstein, chair of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Asia Real Estate Practice, was a featured speaker at the 2021 Mingtiandi Data Centre Investment Forum. Rothstein participated in a panel titled, “Data Centre Investment in Asia,” which took place on Sept. 7, 2021. A recording can be viewed on demand on Mingtiandi’s website.

The Data Centre Investment Forum, a virtual event aired on Mingtiandi’s “MTD TV” video platform, comprises several panels during the month of September featuring leading experts in the data centre and cloud industries discussing critical issues and trends defining the industry in Asia.

The “Data Centre Investment in Asia” panel, hosted by Mingtiandi Founder Michael Cole, discussed how “the regional boom in data centres shows no sign of fading as mobile data usage and demand for hyperscale cloud services continue to rise,” as well as the “investment landscape in one of Asian real estate’s most dynamic asset classes,” according to the forum’s website. During the panel discussion, Rothstein commented among other things, on how real estate investors, including private equity funds and developers, new to data centres projects need to approach the asset class using some different tools, techniques, and strategies than typically used in real estate deals. He also commented on how data privacy and data localization laws across Asia have and will impact the industry.
