Madeline Orlando focuses her practice on both California state and federal regulatory issues. She works with clients to navigate the California regulatory framework, with a particular focus on Prop 65, environmental, and consumer products regulatory compliance. Her practice also includes advising clients on federal regulatory requirements and compliance, including regulations under the Federal Trade Commission, U.S. Department of Commerce, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Madeline also has litigation experience, representing clients in business and commercial litigation as well as environmental and consumer protection litigation.

Experience

  • Represented importers of apparel products in First Sale Declarations for customs valuation of U.S. imports.
  • Counseled a U.S. based company on the Bureau of Industry and Security’s Export Administration Regulations in connection with Russian sanctions.
  • Defends retailer and manufacturer clients in the food, personal care, and consumer products space against Prop 65 cases.
  • Represented a client in front of the California Public Utilities Commission in a quasi-legislative action.
  • Counseled clients on Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission labeling requirements for various consumer products.
  • Advised clients on changing California environmental regulations, including under the Cleaning Product Right to Know Act and SB 1383 recycling of organic materials.
  • Advised client on requirements under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. Department of Agriculture for bringing foreign dogs into the United States.
  • Performed local, state, and federal permitting due diligence for the sale of a natural gas facility in California.
