Elyssa Arnold serves as an assistant director with 15 years of federal government experience in pesticide registration and policy. She has wide-ranging experience in pesticide and biosolids policy, regulation, and risk assessment. In particular, Elyssa has deep experience in ecological risk assessment and Endangered Species Act compliance for pesticide registrations under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Elyssa provides consulting support to clients on FIFRA matters, managing U.S. pesticide registrations and strategies.
Previously, Elyssa represented agricultural stakeholders in the pesticide regulatory process, coordinating input on ecological risk and drinking water concerns and representing agricultural interests in high-level interagency working groups. She chaired the Federal Integrated Pest Management Coordinating Committee, providing leadership on pest management issues across the federal government. Elyssa also conducted ecological risk assessments, human health drinking water assessments, and biological evaluations of endangered species. Elyssa managed the assessment of chemical pollutants in biosolids for human health and environmental impacts, with a focus on PFAS, developing quantitative models to meet Clean Water Act obligations.
Elyssa is a former president of the Chesapeake and Potomac Regional Chapter of the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. She has published multiple scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals on topics including pesticide toxicity to honey bees, ecotoxicity testing needs, and chemicals in biosolids.
