Afam Ikeakanam focuses his practice on the representation of private companies, private equity sponsors, and their portfolio companies in connection with mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, controlling and minority investments, joint ventures, divestitures, carve-outs, restructurings, and general corporate matters across various industries.
Afam is qualified to practice law in New York and Nigeria, which allows him to bring a global perspective to his work. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Afam practiced law at one of the premier full-service commercial law firms in Nigeria.

- Represented SYNLAB International GmbH, a renowned European medical diagnostic services provider, in relation to its acquisition of a majority stake and the subsequent buyout of the founders in a leading Nigerian pathology laboratory company.°
- Represented Honeywell Incorporated, an international oil and gas services provider, with respect to the strategic buyout of its local partners in a JV SPV and the reorganization of the JV SPV into a single shareholder-owned operation.°
- Represented an international oil and gas company headquartered in Dublin in connection with its US$10 million equity investment in Nigerian independent oil and gas operations by way of subscription of shares and loan notes in a funding and technical partner.°
- Represented Lily Hospitals Limited (Lily), a leading health care provider in South-South Nigeria, in connection with the equity investment for the acquisition of a majority stake in Lily by a Pan-African healthcare investor following the exit of a strategic investor.°
- Represented Interswitch Limited in its NGN1.5 billion acquisition of E’clat Healthcare Limited, a technology company providing electronic primary health care services in Nigeria.°
- Represented Oriental Food Industry Limited (OFIL), a subsidiary of National Food Industries Company Limited (NFIC), on the buyout of a long-term minority founding shareholder, thus making OFIL a wholly owned subsidiary of NFIC, a Saudi-based conglomerate.°
- Represented Frontier Oil Limited in connection with a US$45 million term loan facility provided by Union Bank of Nigeria Plc for the drilling and development of two oil wells and associated infrastructure on the Uquo Marginal Field in OML 13 onshore, Nigeria.°
- Represented a leading Nigerian commercial bank in connection with a US$38 million term loan facility to an indigenous Nigerian exploration and production company for the drilling and development of new oil wells and associated infrastructure in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.°
- Represented GTBank Plc in its provision of a US$102 million facility to Petrogap Oil & Gas Limited towards the construction of OML 18 alternative crude evacuation system.°
- Represented Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc in connection with the provision of a revolving amortizing facility of NGN2 billion to a foremost Nigerian gas supply and distribution company towards funding its capital expenditure and an additional overdraft facility of NGN3 billion.°
- Represented MyCredit Investments Ltd. in connection with the provision of a US$2.5 million multidraw loan facility by LEAF II SPC and on behalf of LEAF II Multi-Originator SP2.°
- Represented Willis Towers Watson in connection with the internal corporate restructuring of its Nigerian subsidiary. Provided legal support and advice in connection with satisfying corporate governance requirements and procuring the approval of the Nigerian insurance regulators.°
- Represented a leading global drilling servicing company in connection with the series of transfers of rig and vessel ownership along with the contribution of certain entities to realign the ownership of its global floater rig fleet.°
- Represented PPG Industries Inc. on the internal corporate restructuring of its Nigerian-owned entities.°
- Represented a multinational FPSO operator on its equity divestment and the internal corporate restructuring of its Nigerian operating entity.°
- Represented Ensco International Incorporated in connection with the restructuring of the indebtedness of Valaris Plc.°
- Represented Petrogap Oil & Gas Limited on its US$100 million joint venture arrangement with a Marshall Islands project company for the conversion, installation, and supply of an FPSO unit for field operations in Okwok Field in OML 67, Nigeria.°
- Represented Sterling Bank Plc, a leading Nigerian commercial bank, on the solarization of its head office building and a partnership/investment arrangement in the renewable energy industry.°
- Represented an international oil company with operations in Nigeria in connection with the redeployment of the FPSO Firenze, the first producing Nigerian deep water oil field, on a marginal field in Nigeria.°
- Represented a multinational digital payment services company on alleged corporate governance breaches in its Nigerian investee company.°
- Represented Nordic Aviation Capital DAC in relation to the lease arrangement for its aircraft to Overland Airways Limited.°
