Greenberg Traurig’s Global Trade Practice counsels clients worldwide on customs and other trade matters to ensure compliance with customs and other import laws, to help facilitate the entry of goods into the United States and EU in the most efficient and cost effective way possible. We assist clients with traditional issues that may arise relating to tariff classification, valuation, rules of origin and country of origin marking. Not only do we provide advice to avoid issues from arising in these areas, we also can assist in resolving issues that may arise with Customs and Border Protection (CPB) or EU customs authorities by filing binding ruling requests or protests. We also provide assistance to clients who are subject to CBP enforcement proceedings – seizures and forfeitures, penalties, and claims for liquidated damages. We also advise clients on the availability and use of both Free Trade Agreements and duty preference programs. Our compliance reviews of clients’ import operations, processes and procedures will not only identify areas of weakness, but will offer practical suggestions on how to implement corrective measures. The Practice also has significant experience in dealing with other federal agencies whose regulations directly affect the importation of goods into the United States. In Europe, we have supported clients with obtaining or maintaining the Authorized Economic Operator status. We assist in Value Added Tax (at import) matters and we have represent clients in a number of proceedings with the European Court of Justice over the years.
