Nikki E. Dobay & Shail P. Shah to Speak at COST 2024 Spring Conference

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – April 25, 2024 – Greenberg Traurig, LLP Tax Practice Shareholders Nikki E. Dobay and Shail P. Shah will speak at the Council on State Taxation (COST) 2024 Spring Conference and Audit Session in Cambridge, Massachusetts, May 1.

The conference will cover updates to key State and Local Tax (SALT) issues and insights, as well as bring tax professionals together to exchange information on SALT-related trends and opportunities.

On May 1, Dobay will participate in the opening plenary panel titled: “The Covid Gravy Train Has Been Exhausted – How Will States Balance the Budgets?” During this session, Dobay and the other panelists will discuss the significance that the federal COVID-19 funds had on state revenues over the past several years and how the states will move forward (i.e., where will they start looking for new money) as that funding is no longer available. Later that day, Shah will speak on “AI and Its Present and Future Impact on the Tax Operations Area of Tax Departments,” during which the panelists will discuss the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) on tax operations, among other AI-related issues.

Dobay is nationally known for her deep experience and understanding of state tax policy and the legislative process. She also advises her clients on sophisticated multistate tax issues as well as the consequences and planning opportunities related to corporate mergers and acquisitions transactions and oversees state and local tax controversy matters, ranging from audits to appellate litigation, and involving sales and use taxes, income and franchise taxes, property taxes, and constitutional issues.

Shah has been helping clients address California tax problems for more than 15 years. His clients range from Fortune 25 companies to high-net-worth individuals. Shah focuses his practice on complex California tax planning and representation in front of the California Franchise Tax Board, California Department of Taxation and Fee Administration, Office of Tax Appeals, Board of Equalization, and various administrative and judicial adjudicating forums at both the state and local levels.
