Greenberg Traurig Adds Private Funds Shareholder Dannia Altemimei in Chicago

CHICAGO – Oct. 15, 2026 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has added Dannia Altemimei as a Private Funds Group shareholder in the Chicago office. She joins the firm from Sidley Austin.

Altemimei advises investment managers on the structure, formation, and operation of alternative investment products, including closed-end, open-end, and hybrid fund structures across private equity, real estate, private credit, venture capital, and liquid trading strategies. She counsels clients on regulatory and corporate matters spanning fund formation, securities, derivatives, and futures regulation, as well as trading, compliance, and investment adviser issues.

“Dannia’s combination of sophisticated private funds experience and extensive in-house leadership at a leading asset manager makes her an exceptional addition to the firm,” Private Equity Practice Co-Chair Peter H. Lieberman said. “She understands not only the legal and regulatory issues facing investment managers, but also the operational, commercial, and risk management considerations that drive decision-making. Her experience aligns closely with the needs of our clients and the continued growth of our Private Funds Group.”

Prior to joining Sidley Austin, Altemimei spent eight years in increasingly senior legal roles at Balyasny Asset Management, most recently serving as senior deputy general counsel. In that role, she advised on fund formation, investor and side letter negotiations, regulatory matters, and derivatives and trading documentation. She worked closely with the legal, compliance, treasury, marketing, and portfolio management teams and served on the firm’s Expense Allocation, Valuation, and Counterparty Credit committees.

“Having spent much of my career inside a leading asset management organization and having advised investment managers in private practice, I understand the practical challenges clients face as they navigate increasingly complex regulatory and operational environments,” Altemimei said. “Greenberg Traurig’s global platform, strong private funds capabilities, and collaborative culture provide an excellent foundation for serving investment managers and fund sponsors. I’m excited to join the firm and work with my new colleagues to help clients achieve their objectives.”

Altemimei was recognized by The Hedge Fund Journal as one of its “50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds” in 2023.

Altemimei earned her J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law, where she graduated first in her class and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago.
