Congressional Investigations

Investigations launched by Congress raise unique and complex issues for clients. The legislative branch operates in ways that often seem unpredictable and quite different than other government inquiries or litigation. If not handled properly, these investigations are likely to spark media interest, cause significant reputational damage, and trigger exposure to additional legal scrutiny.

Greenberg Traurig has wide-ranging experience representing companies, corporate executives, and public officials in high-profile and high-stakes congressional investigations and congressional inquiries. We have represented a broad range of clients ranging from high-profile individuals to multinational corporations. We work with clients on all aspects of the congressional investigation process, including responding to information and document requests, narrowing the scope of inquiries and subpoenas, managing discovery, drafting testimony, and preparing witnesses for congressional hearings. We also work with clients to respond to parallel investigations by executive branch agencies as well as grand jury and civil proceedings.

Our team includes former members of Congress, senior congressional counsel, and government prosecutors. Together, we have intimate knowledge of the process from years of leading, shaping, and responding to congressional investigations. While we often help clients manage complex, bet-the-company investigations – and the associated media scrutiny and spotlight – we are equally proud of our work to narrow and limit exposure and avoid public, congressional, and media scrutiny. As Congress continues to find new areas to investigate while continuing to expand its oversight authority, Greenberg Traurig is ready to assist clients no matter what comes their way.

We have experience handling investigations by most committees in Congress, including, but not limited to:
