DALLAS – Oct. 20, 2023 –Johnine P. Barnes, chair of the Washington, D.C. Labor & Employment Practice of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, presented at the National Society of Compliance Professionals National Conference, which took place Oct. 16-18 in Dallas. The conference featured regulatory panels, continuing education courses, and other education panels, including general session, breakout sessions, and talk groups.
Barnes presented “Advancing DEI: Fostering Inclusion for Lasting Change in Your Organization,” Oct. 17 at 10:15 a.m. The panel – which also included Wendy John, head of Global Diversity & Inclusion, Fidelity; Wesley Strickland, senior compliance manager, ERISA, Betterment; and Richard Chen, president, Richard L. Chen, PLLC – discussed diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the financial services industry, including challenges, successes, and lessons learned they may encounter. The panel also discussed bringing unique perspectives to the workplace, legal implications of not promoting an inclusive work environment, managing and disrupting unconscious biases, and challenges employees may face, including fear of discrimination, lost opportunities, microaggressions, and more.
