John Hannon is a commercial litigator who represents individuals and companies in complex commercial disputes in federal and state trial courts, arbitral forums, and appellate proceedings. He brings a combination of private practice trial experience and deep appellate insight drawn from multiple federal clerkships.

John takes special pride in developing and advancing sophisticated written advocacy that effectively conveys complex legal concepts for clean judicial resolution, a competency that has led clients to call on him to craft legal opinions on matters of first impression, including unsettled or unlitigated constitutional questions. John is equally comfortable assisting corporate clients to pursue their strategic aims in commercial disputes involving business torts (including trade secret claims), unfair competition and antitrust claims, and products liability. John’s deep experience at both the trial and appellate levels facilitates his incisive and strategic approach to every stage of a dispute.

John most recently served as a career law clerk to the Hon. Carolyn McHugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, for whom he also clerked earlier in his career. He also clerked for the Hon. Jill N. Parrish on the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah. John’s deep clerking experience enables him to counsel clients from a judicial perspective.

John graduated magna cum laude from Duke University School of Law, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and served on the editorial board of the Duke Law Journal. John’s writing has been published in the Duke Law Journal, and he was inducted into the Order of Scribes in recognition of excellence in legal writing.
