Andrew Z. Smith has experience handling complex commercial litigation and business disputes, as well as data and privacy protection issues, products liability, and insurance coverage litigation. His experience extends to both state and federal courts and involves all phases of a dispute, including pre-litigation, discovery, trial and appeal. Andrew also has broad experience in electronic discovery, including advising clients regarding legal hold obligations to assisting with collection, search and production of data. Additionally, he has experience with litigation counseling, including security preparedness and data breach response coverage.

Andrew is passionate about serving his community, and does so through board positions, advocacy for underserved populations, and pro bono work. Within the firm, Andrew serves as the Chair of the Atlanta office’s Associates Committee, where he also previously served as the Pro Bono Committee Chair for three years. His pro bono work includes helping members of the transgender community petition for legal name changes. In addition, Andrew has positions with several organizations, including: sitting on the Board of Trustees for Quality Care for Children, serving on the Young Alumni/Alumna Committee for University of Georgia Law School, and serving on the Atlanta Leadership Committee for Lambda Legal.

  • Helped a juvenile from Guatemala seek special juvenile immigration status.
  • Assisted an organization in creating liability waivers for an afterschool program.

  • Secured a complete bench trial defense verdict as first chair for a banking and financial institution.
  • Obtained unanimous jury verdict as first-chair for real estate company asserting breach of contract claims against former tenant. 
  • Obtained dismissal with prejudice for financial institution alleged to have violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
  • Defended pharmaceutical and medical device company in mass tort litigation.
  • Represented school system against retaliation claim brought by former employee under the whistleblower statute. After two-week trial, the jury returned a complete defense verdict.
  • Represented real estate developer in breach of contract action seeking unpaid rent, utilities, and attorneys’ fees.
  • Obtained settlement in complex contract and business dispute for a logistics company.
