LOS ANGELES – Jan. 13, 2020 – Daniel H. Black, vice chairman of Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s global Entertainment & Media Practice and chairman of the west coast Entertainment & Media Practice, has been recognized for the fourth consecutive year by Variety in its Variety500, an annual list of the 500 most influential business leaders shaping the global media industry.
According to the publication, Black was recognized for his involvement in transactions valued at over $2 billion, which include the negotiation of employment and new-venture agreements for many senior entertainment and media executives worth more than $110 million in guaranteed compensation alone. Over 60% of these executives represented both gender and ethnic diversity. His work on entertainment matters on behalf of Pokémon, Canadian toymaker Spin Master, Bill Gates and his Gates Ventures, HDNet’s AXS TV channel, and prodco Sugar23 from Oscar-winning producer Michael Sugar also was recognized.
Black, a shareholder in Greenberg Traurig's Los Angeles office, has experience in the television, motion picture, and digital media arenas, having practiced law both in major studio and law firm settings. He has served as lead counsel on transactions with major motion picture studios and television networks, and for major internet content producing, licensing, and advertising entities. Black’s clients include production and distribution, internet, video game, and augmented reality companies, as well as advertising agencies, showrunners, and producers, along with on-air television and sports personalities.
Updated annually, the Variety500 list reflects the accomplishments of its members over the previous 12 months. The individuals chosen are the result of months of deliberation by the Variety editorial team. Over the course of several meetings throughout the year, the editorial team refines the list through careful analysis of each person’s merits, based on research and consultation with the industry at large.
