MIAMI – Aug. 1, 2022 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. has been recognized by Law360 as a 2022 “Florida Powerhouse” for successfully representing clients on many high-profile legal matters over the past year, from settlement negotiations related to the Champlain Towers South condominium collapse to a new lease agreement for a Major League Soccer stadium in Miami.

This marks the sixth year that Law360 has named Greenberg Traurig as one of Florida’s select few regional powerhouse law firms. The honor is given to firms that offer clients regional expertise and make a lasting impact on the law at the state and local level, according to Law360. Greenberg Traurig also appears on the publication’s 2022 regional powerhouse list for the first time in California.

“The Law360 Regional Powerhouse award reflects the firm’s strong performance and proven capabilities in key markets, particularly in Florida, where we were founded 55 years ago and continue to grow and serve our clients at the highest levels, all while providing an inclusive work environment and giving back to our local communities,” Greenberg Traurig CEO Brian L. Duffy said. “We’re focused every day on making sure we have the best lawyers in the state, and we pride ourselves on taking on the most challenging matters and achieving great results for our clients.”

Founded in Miami in 1967, Greenberg Traurig now has more than 2,500 attorneys in 43 locations worldwide, including six Florida offices (Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, Tallahassee, Tampa, and West Palm Beach).

During the past year, Greenberg Traurig’s 380+ Florida attorneys secured positive results for clients across numerous practice areas. The firm’s Real Estate and Land Use practices represented Miami Freedom Park and Inter Miami CF owners Jorge and Jose Mas and David Beckham as co-counsel in negotiating a historic, 99-year lease agreement with the City of Miami to develop a $1 billion Major League Soccer stadium and commercial complex on city-owned land. Greenberg Traurig continues to advise the Mas brothers and Beckham as lead counsel on all development, land use, and environmental aspects of the project.

The firm also assisted the non-profit Jim Moran Foundation in acquiring land for a new headquarters in Fort Lauderdale and helped broker a public-private partnership with Broward College to develop 800+ campus apartments. The Florida real estate team also was at the forefront of a trend toward luxury branded condos, assisting local and national developers in partnering with upscale hotel and lifestyle brands on 18 new multifamily projects statewide with a total residential sellout value of $15+ billion.

“We thank our clients for the trust they place in us and the fact that they come to us with their sophisticated legal issues and projects in Florida and beyond. That’s the mark of a great law firm: helping our clients achieve their business goals,” Greenberg Traurig Senior Chairman Matthew B. Gorson said.

During a year of record-setting corporate deals, Greenberg Traurig’s Corporate Practice helped to lead some of the region’s key transactions, such as advising Miami-based Medina Capital on Cyxtera Technologies’ $3.4 billion deal to go public, representing cybersecurity provider Appgate in its deal to go public at a $1 billion valuation, and guiding Paysafe in its $441 million acquisition of Aventura-based SafetyPay, a leading digital payments platform in Latin America.

“As Florida continues to attract technology companies and entrepreneurs from around the world to relocate and expand here, Greenberg Traurig is facilitating many of the transactions that help grow the state’s economy, particularly with respect to the tech ecosystem,” Miami Co-Managing Shareholders Jaret L. Davis and Yosbel A. Ibarra said. “The only truly global law firm founded in Miami, Greenberg Traurig has decades of experience advising clients on not only regional transactions, but also on cross-border deals involving Latin America and other regions worldwide.”

The past year also saw Greenberg Traurig's Florida Litigation Practice prevail in state and federal courts and on appeal in precedent-setting cases involving free speech, patents and trade secrets, data privacy, antitrust law, and contracts. A team of Construction Law, Litigation, and Real Estate attorneys represented 8701 Collins Development LLC in a putative class action arising out of the fatal collapse of a 12-story condominium building in Surfside, Fla. Greenberg Traurig successfully led settlement negotiations on the defense side, bringing about a resolution for the victims and their families within a year following the tragedy.

“The diverse range of litigation successes is a testament to the firm’s deep bench of highly experienced Florida litigators who understand what it takes to win complex commercial and other civil disputes,” said Tampa Managing Shareholder David B. Weinstein, chair of the firm’s Environmental and Toxic Tort Litigation Practice. “Greenberg Traurig attorneys have decades of experience working with businesses and individuals from a wide variety of industries, and we bring that experience to bear to exceed our clients’ expectations with excellent service and favorable outcomes.”

Among its recent achievements, Greenberg Traurig also helped bring needed relief to Florida’s distressed homeowners insurance market, assisting Dubai-based Kay International AMEA in establishing a reinsurance intermediary in Miami and advising Slide Insurance Holdings in the formation and licensing of Slide Insurance Company as a new entrant to the market. Additionally, the firm served as bond counsel to entities such as the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA), Housing Finance Authority of Palm Beach County, City of Doral, and City of Fort Lauderdale in the issuance of more than $355 million in bonds to support local infrastructure projects.
