IAPP Privacy. Security. Risk. 2023

The IAPP Privacy. Security. Risk. 2023 Conference will focus on the intersection of privacy and technology, with sessions focused on applying privacy-enhancing technologies in adtech and health care, compliant uses of consumer location data, online age verification for children, changes to the chief privacy officer’s role, and more. Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Ian C. Ballon, Co-Chair of the firm's Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice, will be a panelist during the consumer privacy, data breach, enforcement, privacy law session, "A Deep Dive into CPRA Litigation and Its Compliance Implications," on October 5. The session will discuss the five elements of a cause of action; the arguments and strategies used by plaintiffs and how to defeat them; how to value and settle cases; the most common mistakes made by companies before and during CPRA litigation and how to avoid them; and compliance best practices that many companies miss when they focus only on CPRA regulations and not litigation.

On Friday, October 6, Greenberg Traurig Shareholder Darren Abernethy will be a panelist during the "California's Delete Act: Definitions, Deletions, and Disclosures." The session will discuss the bill's fundamentals, including the scope of businesses covered, registration and reporting requirements, and the California Privacy Protection Agency's role. It will also feature conversation on the downstream consequences of the bill, such as its effect on the data broker ecosystem, compliance difficulties that businesses may face, and possible operational changes resulting from it.
