Greenberg Traurig’s Jed E. Dwyer, Seth J. Entin Speak at 42nd Annual FICPATax Conference

MIAMI – Jan. 23, 2024 –Greenberg Traurig, P.A. Shareholders Jed E. Dwyer and Seth J. Entin spoke at the 42nd Annual Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) – Florida Bar Tax Section International Tax Conference. The FICPA and Florida Bar Tax Section's International Tax Conference is tailored specifically for international tax professionals to assist them in the various challenges they will face in the field.

Dwyer spoke on the panel “Piecing it Together: An Inside Look into the IRS Whistleblower Program and Criminal Tax Investigations.” Panelists discussed the process of criminal investigations, including how cases are assembled and scrutinized, as well as how the government utilizes whistleblowers to amass evidence from foreign sources, the relevance of tax treaties, strategies employed to encourage witness cooperation, the contribution of whistleblowers, and future expectations in the global sphere of tax enforcement.

Entin spoke on the panel “Moore and More: Current Challenges to Statutes and Regulations.” The panel discussed the arguments and wider consequences of the Moore case currently awaiting judgment in the U.S. Supreme Court as well as present issues concerning international tax laws and rules, including those linked to downward attribution, presumed paid foreign tax credits, and FBAR, along with other filing prerequisites for dual-resident taxpayers.

Dwyer, co-chair of the firm’s White Collar Defense & Investigations Practice, is a trial lawyer who focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense matters, criminal and civil tax litigation, and other complex civil litigation. He has tried more than 40 jury and non-jury trials and has been involved in over 100 investigations, many of which included complex fraud and regulatory matters.

Entin is a Tax Practice shareholder who focuses his practice on the international taxation of high-net-worth individuals and families, international corporate taxation, Internal Revenue Service international tax audits, and Internal Revenue Service voluntary disclosures.
