Susana Doen Castillo is a member of the Corporate Practice in Greenberg Traurig’s Mexico City office. She advises clients on fintech industry matters, virtual assets regulation, banking, and mergers and acquisitions involving Mexican and foreign companies

In addition, Susana has experience in the energy and port infrastructure sectors representing clients on regulatory matters in oil and gas transactions among private parties and before governmental entities, including the Ministry of Energy (SENER), PEMEX (Mexican National Oil Company), and the National Energy Commission (CNE).

Susana also advises and represents clients in international commercial arbitration proceedings, with experience in disputes arising from cross-border commercial transactions and contracts. She has worked with parties navigating arbitration under leading institutional rules and is familiar with the legal and procedural frameworks applicable to international disputes involving Mexican and foreign parties.

Experience

  • Represented Royal Caribbean Group in legal processes related to the acquisition, operation, and development of the Port and Costa Maya Project in Mahahual, Quintana Roo, Mexico, for approximately US$295 million, including the regulatory aspects of the port concessions and maritime matters for the development of the Perfect Day Mexico Project.
  • Represented an international bank in a in the restructuring of a financing for an amount of MX$124 million.
  • Represented HSBC México in a USD$115 million club deal revolving facility, led by HSBC México as structuring and monitoring agent, and Kloeckner Metal Service Center de México as borrower.
  • Represented Grupo Unigel as lead counsel in the sale of 100% of the shares of Plastiglas de México, a leader in the acrylic sheet market in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
  • Represented refined products companies in obtaining permits for the import, export, and commercialization of refined products and crude oil.
  • Represented several refined products companies in the drafting and negotiation of fuel supply agreements.
  • Represented a foreign financial services company during the authorization request procedure before the National Banking and Securities Commission to operate as an electronic payment funds institution (institución de fondos de pago electrónico) in Mexico.°
  • Represented a Mexican financial services startup during the authorization procedure before the National Banking and Securities Commission for the acquisition of a SOFIPO.°
