Greenberg Traurig’s Ian Ballon to Speak on Social Media and DMCA Trends at the 2015 AIPLA Annual Meeting

SILICON VALLEY, Calif. -- Oct. 22, 2015 -- International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Ian C. Ballon will be speaking this week at the 2015 American Intellectual Property  Law Association (AIPLA) Annual Conference Oct. 22-24 at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.

Ballon will be speaking on the topic, “Social Media and the DMCA – Latest Trends and Case Law.”

According to the AIPLA website, the conference offers the opportunity to connect with professionals in the IP industry from around the world to discuss topics such as PTAB proceedings, induced infringement trademark and copyright perspectives on 3D counterfeiting protection, trade secrets, and patent licensing.

An intellectual property and Internet/mobile litigator, Ballon serves as lead counsel in copyright, trademark, and patent cases and in the defense of data privacy, security breach, and TCPA class action suits.

Ballon splits his time between the firm's Silicon Valley and Los Angeles offices. He is the author of West’s best-selling four-volume legal treatise on cybersecurity and data privacy law, E-Commerce and Internet Law: Treatise With Forms 2d Edition (Thomson West 2014 Cum. Supp., that includes exhaustive analysis of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act; secondary liability, safe harbors and exemptions for copyright, trademark and patent infringement; IP protection for databases; screen scraping; domain names; sponsored links and metatags; and the latest circuit court splits and trends. Ballon chairs PLI's annual Data Privacy, Security Breach and TCPA Class Action conference and he also serves as Executive Director of Stanford University Law School's Center for E-Commerce. Ballon, who holds the CIPP/US certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), is listed by Chambers in the areas of Privacy and Data Security. In addition, he was the 2010 recipient of the State Bar of California IP Section’s Vanguard Award for significant contributions to the development of intellectual property law.
