TAMPA, FL – Oct. 26, 2016 -- International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced its Tampa office as the recipient of the Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award for Office of the Year. The Pro Bono Office of the Year Award is given to the office that demonstrates a commitment to pro bono legal work, encompassing the efforts of shareholders, associates, paralegals, and staff.
Greenberg Traurig attorneys across the firm dedicate their time and talents to providing volunteer legal services to those individuals in their communities who would not otherwise have access to legal representation. The criteria for the awards include the number of hours the attorneys have devoted to pro bono work, the overall impact of their work, and whether the attorneys have successfully recruited others in the firm to participate in pro bono projects.
The Tampa office was honored for its many pro bono accomplishments in 2016, most notably for providing pro bono legal services to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the nation’s largest youth mentoring organization. Led by Tampa Managing Shareholder David B. Weinstein, Greenberg Traurig’s team of 43 lawyers and staff from 14 offices across the country provided Big Brothers Big Sisters with more than $1 million in pro bono legal services.
The team negotiated a settlement agreement between Big Brothers Big Sisters, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of Justice Programs (OJP). The settlement resolved issues concerning the organization’s administration of three DOJ grants, which threatened the organization’s legacy. The team was recognized by Big Brothers Big Sisters with the organization’s 2016 Common Good Award for the extensive, in-kind investment of services to benefit the common good of the organization.
