MIAMI – Nov. 8, 2016 – A multi-office team of attorneys with international law firm Greenberg Traurig P.A. represented longtime client Medina Capital, a Miami-based private equity firm that focuses on investing in companies in the cybersecurity, data analytics and IT infrastructure, in a joint venture with BC Partners, a leading international private equity firm. The joint venture combines a portfolio of data centers and the associated colocation business to be acquired from CenturyLink, along with the acquisition of the parent company of Medina Capital’s security and data analytics portfolio.
The $2.8 billion transaction will deliver a global secure data infrastructure platform by combining 57 premium data centers along with a suite of highly-differentiated security and data analytics services from the Medina Capital portfolio. The transaction is expected to close in first quarter 2017, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
Miami Co-managing shareholder Jaret L. Davis led the team of 15 attorneys from various practice areas on the transaction. They included shareholders Victor Semah (Miami), Drew Altman (Miami), Manny Valcarcel (Miami), Alejandro Ruiz (San Francisco), Daniel Gordon (Chicago), Harry Friedman (Fort Lauderdale), Richard Cutshall (Chicago), Rachel Cohen-Deano (Chicago), Evan Kanter (Miami), Jasmine Zacharias (Miami), Maria Jose Dobles Madrigal (Miami), Noam Lipshitz (Fort Lauderdale), Taylor Berman (Miami), and Sandy Chiu (Miami).
“To have a technology infrastructure provider of this caliber based in Miami and led by a proven team of top managerial talent will have an unbelievably catalytic effect on the local tech ecosystem,” said Davis. “Our Greenberg Traurig team is proud to have served as counsel to Manny Medina and made this venture possible.”
The new company will be an immediate leader in the global colocation market, with more than 3,500 customers and 2.6 million square feet of raised floor capacity and is well-positioned within some of the fastest-growing segments of the information security market.
