Greenberg Traurig Wins First Law Rocks Miami in Support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami

MIAMI – Nov.  18,  2022 – The Meltones, the house band of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A., won the first Law Rocks Miami, beating out four other bands and raising nearly $43,000 to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami.

Law Rocks Miami, the first battle of the law firm bands in South Florida, was a rousing performance held at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach, where more than 80 employees from Greenberg Traurig offices in Miami, Doral, and Fort Lauderdale cheered on The Meltones as they played their set.

The Meltones emerged as the overall winning band based on sponsorship dollars raised, ticket sales, and judges’ score. The judges’ choice award went to Hot Damn!, comprised of attorneys from Jones Chase Employment Lawyers who were supporting the Miami Music Project. The largest  share of the total $103,000 raised via the Law Rocks Miami event came from Greenberg Traurig’s donations.

The firm has been a long-time supporter of BBBS in Miami, the city’s premier youth mentoring organization. Miami-based Greenberg Traurig Senior Chairman Matt Gorson matched individual employee donations up $25,000.

Members of The Meltones band in Miami included three attorneys from the Miami office: Real Estate Shareholder Burt Bruton – and one of the original Meltones members – on guitar and vocals, Commercial Litigation Associate Jessica Johnson Fishfeld on vocals, and Miami Real Estate Associate Daniel J. Thwaites, Jr. on guitar. They were backed by three members of Burt’s friends from local Mami band The Click: Larry Misrahi on bass and vocals, Danny Howe on keyboards, and Allen Lynch on drums.

Law Rocks Global promotes music education for underprivileged youth and raises money for local nonprofit organizations. The Meltones, named after a firm founder Mel Greenberg, has been the Greenberg Traurig’s “house band” since the mid-1980s.

In late October, The Meltones won their 7th consecutive title in Law Rocks New York, raising more than $50,500 in donations for The Veteran Advocacy Project.
