NEW YORK– Dec. 7, 2022 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s G. Michelle Ferreira, co-managing shareholder of the San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices, and Barbara T. Kaplan, co-chair of the Global Tax Practice, will participate on a panel at the American Bar Association Criminal Tax Fraud/Tax Controversy Dec. 12-14 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ferreira will present on a panel titled “Civil Workshop – It’s a World of Depositions: Discovery in the Tax Court and the Federal Dist. Cts.” Dec. 12 at 2:30 p.m. PST. According to the conference website, the panel will discuss depositions and the evolution of discovery in the Tax Court, including the use and techniques of depositions in Tax Court and Federal district court.
Kaplan will present on a panel titled “Ethical Issues in Zealously Protecting Constitutional and Other Privileges” Dec. 13 at 11:15 a.m. PST. The panel will discuss constitutional and common law privileges and how they may present ethical issues representing individuals who could be investigated and prosecuted for criminal tax violations. The panelists also will discuss how privileges in connection with requesting a special master in search warrant matters, and the potential consequences of asserting the privileges.
