Ian Ballon to Speak at Rocky Mountain Intellectual Property & Technology Law Institute

DENVER – May 30, 2018 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s  Ian C. Ballon  will speak at the 16th Annual Rocky Mountain Intellectual Property & Technology Law Institute held in Westminster, Colorado, May 31-June 1, 2018. 

The two-day conference gathers leaders in business, government, and law to discuss the latest developments in intellectual property (IP) and technology. Topics will include internet and mobile litigation, international IP, privacy and data security, Cloud/SaaS, patent litigation, blockchain and cryptocurrency, software patents, digital marketing, the Internet of Things, connected privacy, and the practice of IP law. The event is co-sponsored by Stanford Law School, the Copyright Society of the USA, the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association, and the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law, in cooperation with the Rocky Mountain Regional Office of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

On May 31, Ballon, co-chair of the Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice and an internet and mobile litigation shareholder in the firm’s Silicon Valley and Los Angeles offices, will present a session titled “2018 Internet and Mobile Litigation Update.” Ballon will discuss online trademark hijacking; developments under CDA and DMCA; mobile and website contract formation and arbitration agreements; data privacy and security breach class action lawsuits; and patent liability for platforms, copyright, and trademark fair use online.

Ballon represents companies in intellectual property and technology litigation, including the defense of data privacy, cybersecurity breach, and TCPA class action suits.  A list of recent cases may be found within Ian Ballon's Experience and Bio.. He is also the author of the leading treatise on internet law, E-Commerce and Internet Law: Treatise with Forms 2nd edition, the 5-volume set published by West (www.IanBallon.com), which includes extensive sections on data privacy, cybersecurity, and defending class action suits. In addition, he is the author of The Complete CAN-SPAM Act Handbook (West 2008) and The Complete State Security Breach Notification Compliance Handbook (West 2009). Ballon serves as executive director of Stanford University Law School’s Center for E-Commerce. He was most recently included on the Daily Journal’s 2018 “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers” list, as well as being recognized as a “Groundbreaker” in The Recorder’s 2017 Litigation Departments of the Year Awards and an intellectual property “Trailblazer” by the National Law Journal. He was named the Lawyer of the Year for information technology law in the 2018, 2016, and 2013 editions of The Best Lawyers in America. In addition to his J.D. and LL.M., Ballon holds the CIPP/US certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
