Charles Case focuses on fund taxation and is an integral member of the firm’s investment funds practice, advising on all aspects of taxation (including VAT) with a wide experience of structuring and closing, private equity, infrastructure and real estate funds. He also has experience advising on executive incentivisation arrangements (particularly carried interest and co-investment arrangements), the structuring of investment management platforms and the structuring of investments for funds clients.



  • Advising a client spinning out of an existing fund manager on the establishment of a new investment management platform, and the raising of their first fund focussing on “core +” UK real estate assets, structured specifically for a tax exempt investor base (2016).°
  • Advising an established European focussed real estate fund manager on the raising of their fund targeting a €1b hard cap (2016).°
  • Advising on tax aspects of raising a Western-European focussed infrastructure fund with a target and hard cap of €3.5b (2016).°
  • Advising on the structuring and raising of a €430m mid-market UK and Western European focussed buyout fund (2016).°
  • Advising a supranational tax exempt institution on establishing an innovative structure whereby investors obtained indirect exposure to the client’s investment portfolio through a series of total return swaps (2016).°
  • Advising on a fund investing to obtain indirect exposure to trade finance assets held by banks seeking to improve their regulatory capital position (2016).°
  • Advising a large sovereign wealth fund on its investment into a range of funds including the latest Permira and Cinven funds (2014-2016).°
