Nicola Coleman focuses her practice on health care, insurance, and government law, advising clients on complex regulatory and policy matters in New York. She brings deep experience navigating legislative and administrative processes.

Prior to joining the firm, Nicola served as Deputy Counsel to the New York State Senate Majority, where she advised the Majority Leader and committee chairs on budgetary and policy priorities and supported the development and coordination of key legislative initiatives.

Nicola has more than a decade of experience in state government, having served as counsel to both houses of the legislature. As Associate Counsel to the Assembly Majority, she drafted and negotiated legislation related to housing, consumer protection, and veterans’ affairs. She also served as counsel at the New York State Department of Health, where she played a central role in establishing the state’s health insurance Marketplace. Through its second year of open enrollment, she ensured compliance with state and federal laws, including the Affordable Care Act. She also helped develop internal privacy, security, and quality assurance protocols.

Prior to law school, Nicola worked at MD-X Solutions, Inc. in New Jersey as a Medical Claims Analyst, negotiating with health plan administrators to resolve outstanding hospital balances. Within her first year, she was promoted to Team Leader, where she oversaw a team of managed care auditors.

Nicola’s background in both government and private practice allows her to provide strategic, solutions-oriented counsel to her clients.
