Omar Hegazy has over 20 years’ experience advising on varied commercial and regulatory matters across the Middle East. With almost half of his legal career in-house, he brings an invaluable 360-degree view and commercial nous. He regularly advises corporates and government clients on complex venue projects, events management, sponsorships, policy, privatization of sports assets, and more.
Previously, as a legal director with an FTSE 100 company (and one of the world’s largest publishing and technology companies), Omar led a team providing legal support to the Middle East and Africa operations and advised leadership and C-suite stakeholders on regulatory matters, commercial transactions, risk management, and anti-bribery and corruption compliance.
Before moving in-house in 2012, Omar practiced in the corporate and commercial group of an international law firm in the Middle East & North Africa.

- Advising Ethara on the delivery of the annual Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit.
- Advising Ethara in relation to their Ethara One to Watch Innovation Hub, including support on the groundbreaking sports & entertainment-focused incubator program and designing a legal framework for innovative equity options and other rights.
- Advising RCS Sport on a number of projects and events, including agreements with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council for the UCI-sanctioned UAE Cycling Tour, and the ADNOC Marathon.
- Advising Emirates International Endurance Village on it’s commercial and regulatory legal needs, on its relationship with local sports regulators, and on its relationship with the International Federation for Equestrian Sports.
- Advised a video game investment, development, publishing and Esports company on risk analysis advice relating to content regulation laws and on the Esports regulatory regime of a GCC country.
- Advised the Saudi Esports Federation on the establishment of eSports World Cup, the largest multititle esports festival in the world, including providing guidance regarding novel esports legal issues, as well as drafting and negotiating agreements with nearly 20 of the largest esports clubs in the world.
- Advising Modon Properties on a complex suite of agreements relating to the launch and operation Surf Abu Dhabi, a best-in-class man-made wave facility on Hudayriyat Island, Abu Dhabi, as well as ongoing operational matters.
- Advised the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism and Development Authority on the all commercial and licensing matters for the introduction of European Challenge Tour event.
- A Middle East governmental entity and Ministry – advised on strategy for and implementation of a national plan for the privatization of multiple sports clubs.
- Advised a GCC-based government entity on the potential introduction of a gaming and comprehensive regulatory regulations.°
- Advised a sports media rights agency on gambling regulatory and compliance aspects on its international licensing and distribution of betting streaming rights.°
- Advised a major esports tournament organizer in relation to its holding of online and offline tournaments in the UAE and KSA.°
- Advised leading esports team in respect of all legal aspects of its operations, including in respect of M&A, employment and sponsorship.°
